Services Rendered by
Kidney Foundation:
Haemodialysis Service:
- There is a 12 bedded
haemodialysis unit, providing dialysis in three shifts. Both acetate and
bicarbonate dialysis is provided . Dialysis is provided 5 hours per session,
two to three times per week. Poly sulphane or haemophen membrane is used as
dialyzer. Dialyzer is reused 4-5 times and then discarded.
- Majority of patients are depended on
blood transfusion to correct anaemia. All blood donors are properly screend
for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis-C, HIV,VDRL and MP.
- Dedicated machine is provided for
patients who become positive for Hepatitis-C. Extra precaution is taken for
Hepatitis C patients. The machine is specially sterilized and nurses staff
instructed for pre cautionary measure.
- Hepatitis-B +ve is not accepted for
dialysis. There are about 90 patients on MHD in this
centre.
Kidney
Transplantation:
- Three cases of Live Related Kidney
Transplantation have already been performed in Kidney
Foundation
- At present, there are two OT
facilities for kidney transplant in kidney foundation
- Foundation however motivate and
prepare first degree related donor for transplantation
Out Patient
Service:
- The Foundation is providing out patient
service from 9 AM to 9 PM. Medical officers offer services at nominal fee of
US $ 0.3 (Thirty Cents or 20 taka) per
patient
Out Patient Specialist
Consultation:
- Every day except
Friday
- Renouned kidney specialists
of the country is providing specialised services to patients.
- The service is provided
from 5 PM to 9 PM.
- The fee for each patient is
US$ 1.8 - 2.5 (100-150 taka).
Laboratory Services:
- A well equipped laboratory
service is provided including all biochemical and microbiological tests to
detect and treat kidney diseases.
- Quality control of the
laboratory is monitored by ICDDRB, Dhaka on regular basis. The laboratory
services are provided at 30% discounted rate for all categories of
patients. The services are provided from 9 AM to 9 PM.
Kidney disease prevention
programme:
- One of the important
areas of the foundation is to take active measures for the detection,
diagnosis and prevention of kidney diseases in the community.
Research projects:
The Kidney Foundation has already taken
three research projects:
- Kidney foundation has
already started screening programe to detect CKD in a union near Savar, Dhaka,
Bangladesh. All adult population of that area will be surveyed. Total population:
25000 adults (Male- 13000; Female - 12000)
- Another project is to detect
"chronic kidney disease in the disadvantageous population" living in slum areas
in Mirpur near Dhaka. All adult disadventageous population of these slum areas
will be screened for CKD
- The other project is to detect CKD in
malnourishrd low birth weight babies.Ultrasound of Kidney will be done and
kidney size and volume will be measured in all malnourished
children.
